The Terror is a miniseries that originally aired on AMC in 2018. It was adapted from the Dan Simmons novel of the same name, a supernatural retelling of the story of Sir John Franklin's lost Arctic expedition. The show starred Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Ciarán Hinds, Adam Nagaitis, and Nive Nielsen, and was written by Dave Kajganich and Soo Hugh.
I originally watched The Terror in 2020, after reading the novel at the beginning of the pandemic. Doomed polar expeditions are a bit of a special interest of mine, so the book was right up my alley, but I actually found I prefer the television adaptation. I love what Kajganich and Hugh did with the narrative and character development, and the cinematography and visual symbolism are viscerally moving.
Anyway, The Terror is my favorite show, probably ever. This is a collection of my observations, analyses, and creative projects related to the show and the novel it's based on.
